Batman Again?

April 29th, 2005

So the new batman trailer came out today (quicktime required). It sort of looks good. In fact it makes me miss the days back in Morgantown going to movies. Oh wait… that’s for OTHER reasons :) . Anyhow, I was never really a fan of the Dark Knight series. There are better comics out there (not that I am really much of a fanboy of comics at all. But still, xmen was pretty good. I guess it will be one of those things I’ll see on a plane somewhere or when it is playing on DVD. Either way, it looks like it will be pretty good. /. has a thread going on it. The best I could pull from that (and I agree with it) is from darktower and it is pretty funny.

In other news the A380 flew today. I was thinking about career paths and what not (heady thoughts for a <700 hour pilot) but I honestly don't know if I would ever want to fly something like that. The word “whale” doesn’t quite do it justice. Oh well, at this point I’d be happy in a B1900 ((hint hint Lakes…. Call me)

Fun Flight

April 24th, 2005

You see something new everyday. A student and I were coming back from Page, Arizona via Winslow (the standing on a corner in… Winslow) and decided to take a slight detour to the west to see a meteor crater. Cool Stuff.

More pictures from the trip are up in the pictures section.

Clouds?

April 22nd, 2005

So apparently there was something covering the sky most of today. People *say* that they are called clouds. Strange. I guess that’s what people get for watching the Apple of the weather world. On that note, there was story at /. the other day about how some congressman (from PA I think) is pushing through a bill that will ban NOAA from releasing public weather information. Why? Because it is “unfair” for commercial weather providers. What ever. It just goes to show that if you pay enough money almost any bill can get pushed.

Today was another slow day. No flight time…. Grrr… On the plus side I got done around noon after I had two checkrides pass. Yeah! Lets see, if you count the bonus for the checkride, today I made about what I would be making at a regional. Wow.

I was planning on going up to Show Low but after I got home and ate lunch it started to get pretty cloudy (as mentioned) so I took the lazy out and watched GoldenEye. So many choices.

2 In One Day

April 17th, 2005

What’s this? 2 posts in one day? Ack. Speaking of Ack, the more I hear about Cape Air the more they sound like a really great place to work. Maybe someday when I am jadded regional pilot and realize the majors/LCC aren’t for me  . Or maybe not. Anyhow, more pictures are up. A quick trip down to Tucsan. Good stuff.

I had today off (still recovery from a stomach bug) so I had some time to catch up on news sources including /.. There was a post up about a low altitude satellite or high altitude airship. The Stratellites are sort of like hot air balloons but run off solar power. Sounds neat in theory. It would allow for wireless communication on a satellite coverage basis, as I understand it anyways.

Hmm… Maybe Iridium will have to drop prices. Or not. Now that would sure as heck beat my coverage map.

Nice Weather Out… But I’m Under It

April 17th, 2005

I’m getting over a slight bug of some sort. Yesterday was just all kinds of fun. Fortunately I seem to be over what ever I had and now it is just a matter of getting some strength back. The good news
is that I have been able to empty my schedule for yesterday and today so I didn’t have to fly or feel pressured to. Good stuff. I think I am going over to the office shortly to feel out some paper work (two of my students passed initial commercials yesterday  ).

It’s starting to get hot out (ok, that one was bad) and the Seminole doesn’t have any air conditioning. More reasons to be trying to get out of here and fly something with either a/c or up higher. Grrr.

Sitting… Waiting

April 11th, 2005

A slight (ok, a long) break in my day has allowed me to sit at the desk here and do nothing. Sort of exciting. I even managed to get my hair cut. Nice. I’ve got two flights later, both down to Tucson. Couple that with the one I did yesterday and I should about have the route memorized.

Still no word on the whole airline thing. Everyday I guess I end up with more hours so that is good. Maybe I’ll hear something soon.

What’s Up With This?

April 4th, 2005

Somehow I managed to get allergies. When the hell did that happen. Grr. Anyhow, fortunately the amount of work has rolled back a little bit so I have a little bit more time to try to get better, if it is even possible to do with allergies. Anyhow….

My ultimate Frisbee league ended yesterday with the tourny. We did ok. We didn’t make it out of pool play and went 1 and 2. However, both games we lost were by 1 point. Not so bad. Also, it was really hot and having to play a fourth or fifth game would have been pretty brutal (and yes the grapes were sour.)

So other then that it is the same old same old. It’s been starting to get warmer. I’m not sure how well I will do with the whole summer thing here. Maybe I will be gone by then. Who knows.

Wow… A whole post with no links. How dull.
