Silly Students

May 31st, 2005

My student for today (and the next 2 days) canceled this morning. Dunno why. He left a garbled message on our answering machine but as the thing is pretty much dead dead I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. Grr. On the plus side that left me with nothing to do for today. Oh wait… that’s not really a plus side. I did get 1.2 in this morning with a 10 monther. He busted his MEI in Vegas and was doing the recheck down here. So out for
a few steep turns and then some pattern work. Fun Fun.

So on my day off I managed to accomplish nothing. My reasoning was that it was Memorial Day so nobody else was doing any work so neither should I. Well, a least that is what I was telling my self. I did manage to vacuum. Our’s sucks (get it?). I’ve never used one of these but judging from their price tag alone they must kick ass.

Ok, I’ve run out of things to rant about.

Still Sitting And Waiting

May 26th, 2005

After a week of 100+ temps it looks like tomorrow may be the first day in a while where it is going to stay below 100. We’ll see. Either way I don’t have to fly. Things have slowed down a bit which is nice on one hand. On the other hand, there are five fingers. Kidding. Actually I would like some flight time. It is looking like I am still just short time for moving on to anything else. ExpressJet never called back so I guess I am below their mins. ASA apparently dropped their mins to 600/200 so I’ve got a resume in there as well. Apparently the upgrade time on the ATR is pretty quick. That and a 66 seat turbo prop would be pretty fun. There are also a few possibilities in Alaska. All that said, I don’t think anything is going to break too quickly.

Hot

May 19th, 2005

Ugh… I think it’s starting to get hot out here. Today was around 103 and weather.com is calling for 111 on Sunday. Ack. Makes me wish for cooler times. Oh well. Salvation (no, not that sort) may be in sight. ExpressJet called my to send in a resume for review. Now I just need to get past their hour screening, a phone interview and a face to face. We’ll see.

The picture posted below was submitted to a.net. I was thinking it would be accepted (I mean, I am that good. Right?) But the more I look a the picture, the worse the quality gets. Huh.

In other cool and new news google now has a customizable front page. You can set all sorts of stuff on it which is sort of neat. I do sort of miss the uncluttered look.

Back In Black

May 11th, 2005

Ok, so back in Phoenix, not black. Either way, I flew back in last night via Philly. My flight into PHL was on a 737 that could have used a paint job. The flight out to PHX was aboard at A320 EOW. No idea what the EOW is. I’m guessing it is an extended range version maybe? Who knows. I think it would have to be as the flight time was just over 4.5 hours. Thank god for exit row seating.

Now that I’m back out here I am out of things to do until Saturday. Grr. I’m just hoping I get a call from an airline soon.

I only took two pictures from the trip. They didn’t even come out that good. Dirty glass I guess.

Home Sweet Home

May 8th, 2005

I flew home to Amherst for a few days. A combination of it being Mother’s day, not many students at work and a few other things made it a practical time to do so. I flew on Ted (part of United….duh) for the first time from PHX to ORD. Can’t say I was too impressed. The nice thing about United is they have Channel 9 on the inflight audio system. Ted might be too cheap to install moving map displays in the cabin (yeah Song!) but at least I could keep track of where we were via ATC calls.

Now that I am back in Amherst, it is REALLY cold. Ok, so it’s not like it is THAT cold, but my temp sense is all off due to the fact it hasn’t gotten colder then 55 degrees since I’ve been in AZ. Also it is
raining pretty good and windy. Ah yes, New England in the Spring. This morning I went over to the High School for a little bit to watch some of the Amherst Invitational. It’s sort of funny. The quality of play is much better then out in PHX even though this is high school level and out there it is college/open level. Go figure.

I spoke with my sister for a little bit on the phone before. She’s in France doing the semester abroad thing. Good experience. She seems to be adapting ok. Now I just need to come up with something to do for the next day or so and I will be all set. It’s sort of strange having time with nothing to do. I guess that’s what working 7 days a week does to you.
