Visiting The Folks

November 23rd, 2005

So I am at my parents house (strange, it’s not “home” anymore) for Turkey Day fun. I had a two day trip on Saturday and Sunday and then caught a hop to DCA to catch a Mid Atlantic E170 home. It was my second time on one and the first time I actually was coherent enough to look around and enjoy the plane (long story). I likey. The thing is sweet. It actually feels like a “real” airplane inside and the engines under the wings look SO cute. I’m gushing aren’t I? I’m not gushing enough to agree to fly that thing at anything less then mainline rates though… You hear that Republic?

Anyhow… Amherst is…. nice. It’s been sort of cold (compared to Phoenix) and it rained the first day I was here. It is supposed to snow tonight. Oh the joys of New England. I think I will SLOWLY adapt back to living in the cold, but the first couple of months are going to be no fun what so ever.

The bid award for December came out today. Yet another month on reserve. No surprise there. I am about 15 away from holding a line. Blah. I don’t even have Christmas off this time. Not too bad I guess. I am going to try to move some stuff to get New Years Eve off *if* I manage to get the first off on the other side.

That about does it for me. I am off to bed to store up some energy to eat food tomorrow.

Home For Day

November 7th, 2005

Just finished up a 3 day trip and had today off. It’s back to reserve tomorrow, but hopefully they will fly me. This last trip was from Dayton to Washington with a Detroit turn and then a deadhead to RDU. Next day was a early flight to PIT followed by a 26 hour layover. Honestly, what is there to do for 26 hours in PIT? The hotel we stay at is nice enough, but unfortunately it is the middle of nowhere. I did walk over to the nearby (about 2 miles) mall to get lunch, but then the weather started to get nasty so I stayed in the hotel the rest of the day. There was some sort of family reunion going on on the floor I was staying on so I heard people running up and down the hall all night. The third day was a PIT to Nashville turn (really pretty down there) and then we were supposed to go to Boston and back. The Boston flight was delayed about an hour (I found out there is wireless in parts of the terminal in PIT in the mean time) and when we finally did push from the gate we went into the penalty box with an estimated wheels up time of 1.5 hours away. When that time came and went we decided to cancel so we headed back to the gate with a whole bunch of unhappy passengers. Ah yes, the airline life.

Fortunately we (the crew) were able to catch the last flight back to Dayton (which we actually flew because the other crew was stuck in Newark). I took some pictures on this trip. The captain saw me taking them and decided to get a camera while we were in PIT. He had a pretty good time trying to learn how to use it on the last day of the trip.

The Potomac River, north west of DC. We were cleared for the River Visual for runway 19 (which is basically follow the river to the runway). I had wanted to shoot all the way in to the airport but the sun was so glaring I could see anything. Another time.

Farther down the river. The 14th street bridge is in view as is the airport beyond it.

Downtown Cleveland with Lake Front airport beyond it. We were going to Detroit.

The farthest South piece of Canadian soil (an island in Lake Erie)

Yeah, that’s me. Scary huh?

Downtown Pittsburgh. The captain was flying the base for the runway 28L visual.
